ANNOUNCES $5,000 IN FUNDING FOR THE 175TH ANNIVERSARY OF FENELON
AND
VERULAM
TOWNSHIPS
”
FENELON
FALLS– Local
MP Barry Devolin on behalf of the Honourable
Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women
and Official Languages and Minister for La Francophonie,
today announced funding for the 175th anniversary of
Fenelon and
Verulam
Townships
.
The
Fenelon–Verulam 175 Committee will receive funding of $5,000
to help with the planning and execution of a series of events
that will take place from June 1 through October 13, 2008, to
commemorate the 175th anniversary of the region.
Residents of the townships of Fenelon and Verulam will
have the opportunity to participate in events ranging from
historical exhibitions to local heritage celebrations to mark
the area’s anniversary.
“The
Government of Canada is pleased to support the 175th
anniversary of Fenelon and Verulam townships,” said Minister
Verner. “We are committed to building stronger communities and
to providing all Canadians with opportunities to experience and
celebrate Canadian heritage and culture.”
“This
landmark anniversary is an occasion to bring area residents
together to foster community pride and celebrate local history
and heritage,” said Devolin. “The Government of Canada is
proud to support such an important occasion in the history of
Fenelon and Verulam townships.”
“The
funding from Canadian Heritage has helped us commemorate the 175th
anniversary of Fenelon and Verulam townships through an
interactive exhibit, period gardens, a Heritage Musical
Festival, a book launch, and a Family History Day,” said Glenn
Walker, Director of the Fenelon–Verulam 175 Committee.
The
Government of Canada has provided this funding through the
Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the
Department of Canadian Heritage.
