“DEVOLIN
ANNOUNCES $60,948 IN FUNDING FOR NEW HORIZONS PROJECTS”

Local
MP Barry Devolin, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg,
Minister of Human Resources and Social Development and the
Honourable Marjory LeBreton, Leader
of the Government in the Senate and Secretary of State (Seniors),
today
announced $60,948 in funding for four projects through the
Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).
The
new projects are as follows:
- Bolsover
Pine Seniors Club / funding in the amount of $5,141
- Coboconk
New Horizons Seniors Club / funding in the amount of $5,842
- Royal
Canadian Legion Branch 141 (
Sunderland
) / funding in the amount of $24,965
- Manilla
Library Association / funding in the amount of $25,000
“The
Government of Canada is committed to strengthening and building
communities that promote the active living, empowerment and
dignity of seniors,” said Devolin. “These projects will enable
seniors to share their skills, experience and wisdom with others
in their community.”
“New
Horizons for Seniors has proven to be extremely valuable in
promoting community activities by and in support of seniors,”
said Devolin. “The
staff and volunteers of each of the successful applicants should
be commended for their hard work in the communities they serve as
this area is a better place because of them.
The
NHSP provides grants to support a range of community-based
projects across
Canada
that enable seniors to participate in social activities, pursue an
active life and contribute to their communities.
