DEVOLIN
ANNOUNCES $5,000 IN SUPPORT OF APSLEY VILLAGE MARKET
July
28, 2007
APSLEY
– Local MP Barry
Devolin, on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of
Health and Minister for FedNor, today announced a federal
contribution of $5,000 to help build an outdoor community market in
downtown Aplsey.
The
money will be used to build planters, benches, signage and canopies
to provide an accessible outlet for local artists, artisans and
local agricultural producers a venue to sell their products to the
general public.
“By
investing $5,000 in the Apsley Village Market, we are assisting the
community to build on local strengths, create jobs and develop the
economy,” said Devolin. “This
market will allow artisans who used to be spread out across
Peterborough
County
to meet in a central location to sell their products which helps to
keep dollars in the area.”
“We
are grateful for the funding from Industry
Canada
through the Peterborough County CFDC,” stated Sandy Zimmerman,
Project Coordinator. “All
materials for this initiative were purchased locally and as were the
builders who constructed the market.
By working together, we have not only beautified our downtown
core but helped our local economy.”
“This
Government of Canada funding in support of the Aplsey Village Market
through the EODP is a strategic investment in tourism and commerce,
and we are pleased to be able to play a part in it,” said Judy
Heffernan, General Manager of Peterborough County CFDC.
“I would like to acknowledge the North Kawartha Community
Development Association for their cooperation, interest and time
volunteered to push this project forward on behalf of their
community.”
The
funding for today’s announcement will flow through the
Peterborough County Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC)
and is provided through the Eastern Ontario Development Program (EODP),
a socio-economic development initiative announced by Prime Minister
Stephen Harper in August 2006.
