“DEVOLIN
PLANS HIS FOURTH CAPITAL
EXPERIENCE”
October

LINDSAY
- Local MP Barry Devolin will host 15 area students in
Ottawa
this Sunday for his fourth annual Capital
Experience trip. The
initiative allows two students from each of the riding’s seven
secondary schools, plus one student from Apsley, to travel to
our nation’s capital for three days of meetings and events in
an effort to learn more about careers in public life.
“Based
on the fact this is our fourth year conducting this trip, I feel
the agenda offers an interesting mix of possible careers for the
student’s to consider,” explained Devolin.
“Similar to 2006, this year’s Capital
Experience includes a visit to the South Korean Embassy, a
meeting with a print journalist from the National Press Gallery,
lunch with representatives from a government relations firm and
a talk with people from Amnesty International.”
The
first Capital Experience was held in 2004 following Barry’s
election to Parliament four months earlier.
“A
number of service groups and local businesses have already
stepped forward to sponsor a student from their community,”
said Devolin. “Many
of this year’s sponsors are pleased to repeat their support
based on the positive feedback from students who were involved
with the past three Capital
Experience trips.”
This
year’s sponsors include; Lindsay Carpet Cleaners, Canadian
Tire – Lindsay,
