DEVOLIN
SUPPORTS TRIBUTE EVENT FOR VETERANS
LINDSAY
– Local MP Barry Devolin, on behalf of the Honourable Greg
Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, announced today a
contribution of up to $3,250 to The Academy Theatre for Performing
Arts in Lindsay.
The
funds, provided through Veterans Affairs Canada's Community
Engagement Partnership Fund, will support a tribute event that
honours Veterans from 13 local Royal Canadian Legion branches.
"Showing
gratitude to our fallen heroes is so vital during Veterans
Week," said Devolin.
"Their courage, skill and professionalism, are an
inspiration to us all.”
"Veterans
Affairs Canada is committed to remembering the sacrifices and
achievements of all those who have worn the Canadian uniform with
pride," said Minister Thompson. "Projects like this one
provide the community with the opportunity to honour local
veterans."
“Throughout
our history,
Canada
has always been a resolute defender of our founding values; freedom,
democracy, human rights and the rule of law,” explained Devolin.
“To this day, our brave men and women of the Canadian
Forces are upholding this noble tradition at home and abroad.”
The
tribute event will be held tonight (Friday November 9, 2007) at the
Victoria Park Armoury. Approximately 350 people, including veterans
and youth are expected to attend.
The
Community Engagement Partnership Fund provides funding to non-profit
groups, educational institutions and other organizations delivering
remembrance activities and events. Administered through Veterans
Affairs Canada's Canada Remembers program, contributions are made
throughout the year and encompass both national and community-based
projects.
