“DEVOLIN
ANNOUNCES $66,597 FOR NEW PROJECTS TO BENEFIT SENIORS”
LINDSAY:
Local MP Barry Devolin, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley,
Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced
$66,597 in funding for three projects through the Government of
Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).
The
new projects are as follows:

Lakes Food Source / funding in the amount of $24,642
- Community
Care of Lindsay / funding in the amount of $24,000
- Community
Care of Haliburton County / funding in the amount of $17,955
“Canada’s
new Government is committed to enhancing the social well-being of
seniors in communities by encouraging them to share their skills,
wisdom and experience,” said Devolin. “Projects,
like the ones I’ve had the pleasure of announcing today, help
reduce the risk of social isolation among older adults by promoting
their ongoing involvement in the community.”
“The
staff and volunteers of each of the successful applicants should be
commended for their hard work in the communities they serve as this
area is a better place because of them,” stated Devolin.
“I would also like to congratulate Roberta Sommerville of
the Kawartha Lakes Food Source; Valmay Barkey of Community Care of
Kawartha Lakes and Donna MacDonald of Community Care of Haliburton
County for their leadership and service to improving the quality of
life for our seniors.”
NHSP provides grants to support a range of community-based projects
across Canada that encourage seniors to contribute to their
communities through social participation and active living.
Projects support
broad national objectives and regional priorities.
