Pension Plan, Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement
Before
I begin my main topic, I want to say what a great time I had at my 1st
Annual Ice Cream Sunday. In just three hours, the volunteers and I
were pleased to serve up more than 350 sundaes – thanks to
Kawartha Dairy for donating all that ice cream!
Ice
Cream Sunday provided a great opportunity for me to meet many of my
constituents – some even joked that this was the first time they
actually saw a politician working!
I’d
like to thank the volunteers who made this event possible: Connie
Kennedy who assisted with the organization; Al Ingram and Earl &
Doreen Murray from Kawartha Settlers Village; Kawartha Lakes Ward 2
Councilor Ric McGee for scooping ice cream; Lorraine Yurick and
Brenda Moynes for keeping the syrup containers full; and Candice
Daks and Pat Laycraft who spent the day in period dress in the
Duggan House.
Of
course we couldn’t have done it without the contributions of a
number of local businesses such as Burns Bulk Food in Lindsay,
Wintergreen Maple & Fruit Syrups and Kawartha Dairy. Thank you
to all and I look forward to the 2nd Annual next year!
On
to this week’s topic: my upcoming Information Sessions on Canada
Pension Plan, Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement.
At our Seniors Seminars held in June with local MPP Laurie Scott, I
heard from many seniors who have questions about government pension
and income plans.
As
a result, I will hold Information Sessions in nine communities in an
effort to answer some of these questions and ensure that local
seniors are receiving all they are entitled to.

knowledgeable about the Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security and
the Guaranteed Income Supplement.
In

these sessions. If you are looking for general information or have a
specific question, I encourage you to attend. I look forward to
seeing you at one of the sessions!
