DEVOLIN ANNOUNCES OVER $1.4 MILLION FOR THE CANNINGTON LIBRARY
CANNINGTON – Local MP Barry Devolin, on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology) (Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario), and the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, today announced $1,405,000 to the Township of Brock.
The money will be used to renovate the existing building in downtown Cannington and install equipment and software to create an Innovation and Technology Learning Centre. The funding is being provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) announced in Canada’s Economic Action Plan
“Investments such as this are creating and protecting jobs, supporting Canadians who have lost their jobs and laying the foundations for the future prosperity of Brock Township and surrounding communities,” said Devolin. “This announcement is the result of many months of hard work, research and development put forward by many dedicated volunteers and the staff and elected officials of the Township of Brock.”
"The volunteers and staff of Brock Township have extended a tremendous amount of effort to make this project a reality,” said Mayor Larry O’Connor. “Today, their vision of a facility that could not only provide improved library services, but be a space where the community can come together and grow will soon become a reality.”
The CAF was established to support workers, businesses and communities in southern Ontario. Under Intake one of the program, more than $101 million was invested in 90 projects in southern Ontario. Under the second intake, $127.8 million is available for eligible projects.
Selections for this fiscal year were done on the basis of innovation, diversification and job creation. In total, 750 applications were received totaling close to $1 billion.
