DEVOLIN AND JOHNSON ANNOUNCE $2.5 MILLION TO IMPROVE HIGHWAY 115

LINDSAY – Barry Devolin, Member of Parliament for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock, and Rick Johnson, Member of Provincial Parliament for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock, today announced stimulus funding that will benefit the local economy and improve local infrastructure for years to come. Today’s investment of $2.5 million in joint federal and provincial funding will upgrade Highway 115 between Peterborough Road 10 to Highway 7A.

"Our government is investing in local infrastructure to help stimulate job growth and improve the quality of life of our residents well into the future,” said Devolin. “We are working hard to support and invest in Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock to help this region recover from the economic recession.”

“I’m pleased the federal and provincial governments are continuing to work together to bring much need infrastructure upgrades to our area which will create jobs and bolster the economy,” said Johnson.

This funding announcement is for one of 43 highway, bridge and local road projects announced on April 7, 2010 by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.

The Government of Canada’s contribution for this project is being provided through the
$4-billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, a key component of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, which invests in construction-ready infrastructure projects that must be completed by March 31, 2011.

Ontario's portion of the funding is part of the $32-billion infrastructure stimulus funding announced in the 2009 budget.

Today’s announcement represents contributions from both the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario. Since 2007, the governments of Canada and Ontario have committed more than $13 billion in funding to more than 6,400 infrastructure projects across the province to stimulate the economy and create jobs.
