DEVOLIN ANNOUNCES $27,252 IN CELEBRATE CANADA FUNDING FOR HALIBURTON-KAWARTHA LAKES-BROCK

LINDSAY – Local MP Barry Devolin, on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced $27,252 in funding to for Celebrate Canada festivities in numerous communities across Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock.

“Celebrate Canada activities have become a tradition offering Canadians the opportunity to share their pride in their country,” said Devolin. “The success of these events is due, in great part, to the volunteer members who work tirelessly to ensure each Canadian has an opportunity to enjoy local celebrations.”

The money will be used to help cover some of the costs of the various Canada Day celebrations taking place from June 26th to July 1st across the riding. Events such as live music, family games, fireworks, free barbeques, children's activities and parades will be offered. 

The successful applicants are:

Beaverton Canada Day Committee – funding in the amount of $1,575 
Township of Galway-Cavendish and Harvey – funding in the amount of $1,717 
Buckhorn Community Centre – funding in the amount of $1,200 
Township of Cavan-Monaghan – funding in the amount of $1,000 
Cannington Lions Club – funding in the amount of $3,600 
West Guilford Recreation Committee – funding in the amount of $1,200 
Township of Minden Hills – funding in the amount of $2,720 
City of Kawartha Lakes – funding in the amount of $14,240 for celebrations in Omemee, Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, Kinmount, Lindsay, Norland and Oakwood.

“In addition, this year we will be honoured by the presence of Her Majesty The Queen at the Canada Day show at noon in Ottawa,” said Devolin. “As we prepare to celebrate our country, we come to recognize how fortunate we are at having such a rich heritage, which enables us to look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm. I hope you all enjoy the celebrations!”
