DEVOLIN PREPARES FOR HIS EIGHTH CAPITAL EXPERIENCE TRIP

LINDSAY - Local MP Barry Devolin has once again finalized plans for his Capital Experience program - the eighth time this trip has taken place. The initiative is aimed at encouraging local youth to get involved and learn more about careers in public life.

Two students from each of the riding’s seven secondary schools, plus one student from Apsley will travel to Ottawa this Sunday for three days of meetings and events.

“This year’s Capital Experience students will get to meet and speak with former residents of our riding who have either started or expanded their careers in Ottawa," said Devolin. "The trip includes a meeting with Bryn Weese, former reporter with the Minden Times and now a member of the National Press Gallery, Katlyn Harrison, graduate of I.E. Weldon Secondary School in Lindsay now working with SUMMA, a government relations firm and Jenni Byrne, a graduate of Fenelon Falls Secondary School who has worked in the Prime Minister's Office and most recently was the National Campaign Manager for the Conservative Party in the May 2011 election."

The trip also includes a visit to the South Korean Embassy, a meeting with representatives from Amnesty International, a discussion with members of the Department of Foreign Affairs, a tour and meeting with officials from the University of Ottawa and a chance to watch Question Period.

“A number of service groups and local businesses have stepped forward to sponsor a student from their community,” explained Devolin. “Many of this year’s sponsors are pleased to repeat their support based on the positive feedback from students who were involved with the past Capital Experience trips.”

“It is my understanding that many of the students attending the Capital Experience are involved with their student councils so I’m also hoping this might encourage even more students to get involved in their high school’s student government.”
