DEVOLIN ANNOUNCES $20,800 FOR THE CANNINGTON BUSINESS ASSOCIATION

CANNINGTON – Local MP Barry Devolin, on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced $20,800 to the Cannington Business Association’s Annual Dog Sled Races and Winter Festival.

The money was approved through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program and will be used to help cover the costs of marketing, as well as enhancing the 8th Annual Cannington Dog Sled Races and Winter Festival on January 28th and 29th 2012.

“Our Government is proud to support the Cannington Business Association and their efforts to establish the Dog Sled Races and Winter Festival,” said Minister Moore. “By partnering with communities to support activities that celebrate our shared history and our rich cultural diversity, we are fulfilling our commitment to strengthen our communities and support arts, culture and heritage.”

“The Cannington Dog Sled Races and Winter Festival has been getting bigger each year and is an occasion to bring tourists and area residents together to foster community pride,” said Devolin. “The Government of Canada is proud to support such an important annual event in Brock Township.”

“This year’s event will feature more than 80 dog sled teams from across North America competing for a $10,000 purse,” said Alison Bennie, one of the Event Organizers. “I’d like to thank all the volunteers who are helping to get the weekend ready for the thousands who are expected to converge on Cannington for the celebration, now billed as one of the best of its kind in Canada.”

The Government of Canada created the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
