DEVOLIN ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH IN HALIBURTON
COUNTY
HALIBURTON: Local MP Barry Devolin, on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), today announced that the Haliburton County Development Corporation (HCDC) is once again ready for local businesses and organizations to develop and submit applications for funding from the Eastern Ontario Development Program (EODP).
This follows a recent announcement by the Government of Canada to invest $30 million over the next three years to support the renewal of the Eastern Ontario Development Program, resulting in a greater number of economic development initiatives and improved partnerships throughout this riding.
“This additional investment in the Eastern Ontario Development Program will offer new opportunities for the people, businesses and communities in our region," said Devolin. "I have always said, CFDC's have a very effective formula for assisting the communities they serve by using experienced professionals on their board to make decisions on priority files in the towns in which they live."
“We are extremely pleased to be able to again deliver EODP in Haliburton County - and this time through to 2014.”, said Bill Obee, Chair of the HCDC Board of Directors. “We have to thank the Government of Canada for including it initially in their February budget, Barry Devolin and the other Eastern Ontario MPs for the strong support to bring EODP back, and the positive evaluation of the Program undertaken by FedDev Ontario, which provided a clear demonstration of its value to the communities across Eastern Ontario. We look forward to meeting the goals of the new EODP Program and delivering clear economic benefits to Haliburton County as a result.”
"One of the big changes is that while each year has a ‘hard stop’ on March 31st for fiscal accounting, projects can extend beyond that date; in fact, they can go right until March 31, 2014," said Andy Campbell, General Manager of HCDC. “We now have a longer timeframe and look to see impactful, more strategic initiatives happen.”
The Program is managed by FedDev Ontario and funding will be delivered by 15 Community Futures Development Corporations located throughout rural Eastern Ontario.
